New Valona Platform Deep Dive: Financial Data, AI Analysis, and What Changed

Last Tuesday, we walked through the new Valona platform — the competition and market dashboards, auto-updating competitor profiles, validated financials, and the AI-powered analysis that’s changing how intelligence teams work.

We had a lot of great questions during the session. Some we answered live, while others deserved more detail than a quick on-air reply allows. Many centered on financial data coverage, private-company visibility, AI-powered market analysis, and how these new capabilities fit into the broader Valona platform.

To help clarify what’s included in this first release, we’ve organized the most common customer questions into three themes:

  • Financial Data & Coverage
  • Dashboards, Profiles & Functionality
  • AI, Sources & Research

Let’s dive in.

1. Financial Data & Coverage

Do you provide quarterly financials, or only annual? I track competitor performance quarterly—will this work for me?

The dashboards use standardized annual financials for consistent benchmarking across public and private companies. Public company profiles also include quarterly earnings analysis delivered within 2-3 hours of the end of the earnings call. Valona already tracks competitors continuously through real-time signals and AI analysis to support qualitative performance tracking.

Do you cover financials for private companies (e.g., via Moody’s, D&B)?

Yes. Valona sources and validates data from multiple financial providers, normalizes it, and delivers annual financials for all industry-defining players where reliable data is available — including large private companies.

How strong is coverage for non-listed companies in regions like China, South Korea, Japan, Poland, or the US?

If a company is significant in its market and data exists from any of our sources, we include it. Coverage is strong across most regions. In China, private-company disclosures are more limited, as firms typically only publish financials if listed or legally required. Where reliable filings or registry data exist, those companies are included.

Can we correct mistakes in the financials manually?

Our financial data is SLA-backed, validated across multiple pipelines, and manually checked where needed, so you shouldn’t find mistakes. Manual edits aren’t supported but if something looks wrong, you can flag it and we’ll verify it promptly.

What happens to profiles for companies without earnings updates?

Only the Earnings Updates section remains empty. The rest of the profile still includes:

  • annual financials
  • real-time Valona Insights
  • AI analysis
  • the My Analysis workspace for your internal analysis or battlecard use.

Do you provide financial data at the business-unit or segment level?

Not in this first Valona release. Most companies do not consistently publish detailed segment or regional financials, and producing them requires significant manual upkeep. We also want to ensure that enough companies in a benchmark group have comparable data, so the dashboards remain meaningful across both public and private players.

We are exploring how and where to add more granular KPIs in the future, typically starting with the most important companies in each sector where reliable data is available. For now, segment insights appear mainly in qualitative form through earnings summaries, which often describe segment performance even if full quantitative breakdowns are not yet visualized in the dashboards.

2. Dashboards, Profiles & Functionality

With the financial coverage explained, many teams next want to understand how the new dashboards and company profiles function in practice—especially when used alongside existing Valona features.

What is the difference between dashboards and company profiles?

Dashboards provide a market-level and competitor-level view, enabling users to benchmark companies, monitor industry trends, and understand broader competitive dynamics.

Company profiles provide a deep dive into individual players, combining financials, strategy signals, and AI-generated analysis.

Both follow a clear, templated structure that supports consistent competitive intelligence workflows, but they serve distinct use cases.

When a dashboard updates, can we access earlier versions or see what changed?

Previous dashboard versions are not stored. However, each AI analysis block clearly shows when it was last updated, and you can save or publish any analysis you want to preserve for reference or reporting.

Do existing Valona monitoring features—such as newsfeeds and email alerts—remain available?

Yes. All existing continuous monitoring, news feeds, email alerts, dashboards and profiles remain unchanged. The new dashboards and profiles work alongside your current setup to provide a more decision-ready layer of analysis.

Are the topics shown in dashboards and profiles fixed, or can we customize the analysis?

You receive a structured starting point with predefined topics aligned to common CMI use cases—such as growth drivers, risks, innovation, and R&D intensity.

Power users can also:

  • edit AI analysis prompts
  • adjust content
  • add custom AI analysis blocks
  • add or embed other content or visualizations

This ensures a balance between off-the-shelf speed and flexible customization.

Can we choose which companies appear in the dashboards and profiles?

The dashboards and profiles use a standardized set of market-defining companies for each industry sub-vertical to ensure consistent and comparable benchmarking. In dashboards, you can filter to focus on the companies most relevant to you. Profiles are provided as a complete set, and individual companies cannot currently be removed.

Valona regularly reviews and updates the company coverage for each industry as markets evolve and as new publicly reported or sourced financial data becomes available, ensuring the benchmark set stays relevant and comparable.

3. AI, Sources & Research

Finally, customers often ask how Valona’s AI analysis is generated, how reliable it is, and what role the Research App plays in shaping monitoring and insight creation.

Do I need the Research App to get the ‘key growth drivers’ and other AI analysis?

No. The AI analysis in the new dashboards and profiles is already pre-configured. You do not need to set up anything in the Research App to receive these insights.

The Research App is Valona’s advanced analyst tool for configuring custom monitoring and accessing the full Valona Insights Library.
You can choose to include these real-time insights to enhance the analysis—or exclude them if you prefer a more controlled or static view.

Which paywalled sources are used for Valona Insights? Do you include investment banks or analyst research?

Valona Insights draws from 280+ licensed paywalled sources and thousands of open-web sources, including:

  • industry publications
  • regulatory agencies
  • sector journals
  • research institutes
  • commercial data providers

Due to licensing restrictions, investment-bank equity research is not included, but Valona offers one of the most comprehensive market-intelligence source bases available globally.

Are the news and insights live, or delayed?

Insights are delivered in near real-time. Most content is harvested within minutes to hours, and nearly all sources appear within 24 hours, depending on language and translation processes.

Does Valona cover scientific papers and patents?

Yes. Valona includes coverage of scientific publications across numerous disciplines.

For patents, Valona surfaces patent-related news, announcements, and analysis from our global source base. If you want to track specific patents or technologies directly, you can also connect external patent feeds to your monitoring setup in Valona.
