Founded: In 1819, the oldest brewery in the Nordic countries
Sinebrychoff produces beers, ciders, soft drinks and energy drinks, and offers a comprehensive range of international beers and a wide range of other alcoholic beverages through its partners. Positioned as one of the largest breweries in Finland and a significant part of the Carlsberg Group, Sinebrychoff also serves as the Finnish bottling partner for Coca-Cola beverages.
Global insights for global strategies
As the VP for On-Trade Sales at Sinebrychoff, a subsidiary of the Carlsberg Group, Christian Hickey oversees a team responsible for ensuring the availability and maintenance of the company’s products in HoReCa outlets across Finland. Despite this responsibility, Hickey found it challenging to stay abreast of global market trends and industry developments, leaving him feeling uninformed about both local and international markets.
A successful implementation and platform trial
Recognizing the need for comprehensive insights, Hickey tasked his team with finding a solution, leading them to introduce Valona. Hickey shared, “Before, our focus was primarily internal, lacking easy access to external data. The team and I were eager to commence the trial, and we were immediately impressed with the wide-ranging, daily insights provided. Subsequently, we implemented it across the organization.”
Value of global awareness and insights
“With Valona, obtaining valuable information became effortless,” Hickey notes. “I can quickly grasp key global trends by simply checking my inbox. Having all the information consolidated in one place significantly streamlined our processes.”

Furthermore, the adoption of Valona has fostered a culture of industry awareness among Hickey’s team. “It offers us a broader perspective on both the Finnish and international beverage industries, as well as broader macro trends. This, in turn, encourages the team to explore and delve deeper into the topics they encounter,” he explains, and continues: “The ability to read over so much information quickly is a major plus and could benefit other management teams facing similar time pressures”.
Valona’s efficient information delivery has been instrumental for Hickey and his team. “While this information is accessible to us with additional time and resources, Valona provides a convenient and effective solution for our needs,” Hickey concludes.
